Rebecca Carpenter Mayer

Rebecca Carpenter Mayer is a teacher, artist, and civil rights advocate. She has been a producer, director, co-producer, and an associate producer for dozens of programs for Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits, both internet and broadcast, in addition to holding positions as a story analyst at Warner Bros. Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox. Carpenter Mayer has held teaching positions at Harvard University and the University of Texas at Austin, and has taught arts-integrated learning in urban elementary schools. She has a particular interest in the mental health aspects of high stress home and learning environments, and how trauma affects human development and relationships.

Passionate about athletics, Carpenter Mayer was a collegiate rower and rowing coach, as well as a researcher on a groundbreaking study on the mental health of women athletes “The Mental Health of Female College Student-Athletes: Research and Interventions on a University Campus” in 1994. She grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and attended Harvard University with a BA in Germanic Studies. She holds an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in teaching from USC.  Carpenter Mayer is the daughter of, Lew Carpenter, a ten-year NFL running back who won three NFL Championships with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers, and an NFL coach for 31 years.
